The video was posted on Twitter - which is banned in China - by Hu Jizin, editor-in-chief of the Global Times, the official newspaper of China's ruling Communist Party. He claimed that a reporter picked it up from the scene

Peng Shuai said he was "safe and well" but wanted to respect his privacy, the International Olympic Committee said after a video call with the Chinese tennis player on Sunday.

A newly released video released by Chinese state media shows former Wimbledon doubles champion Peng at a tennis tournament in Beijing on Sunday morning.

The safety of the 35-year-old Peng has been a source of international concern since the video surfaced two weeks ago after Chan's vice-premier, Zhang Gaoli, was accused of sexual harassment.

In a statement, the IOC said that at the beginning of his 30-minute call with Thomas Buck, Peng thanked the IOC for its cooperation.

"He explained that he had studied and was well, living at his home in Beijing, but wanted to respect his privacy at this time," the IOC said.



"That's why she likes to spend her time with friends and family now.

Emma Emma of the IOC Athletes Community and Lilingwei, a member of the IOC, are believed to be Peng's first contacts with Chinese public officials on November 2.
